SSI-2020 is an alcohol interlock sevice or breath alcohol ignition interlock device that is designed for DUI (Driving Under the Influence) offender alcohol interlock programs.

How it works.

Unlike a hand held breathalyzer, this device is installed into your vehicle to measure the breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) of the intended driver to prevent the vehicle being started or operated if the BrAC is over the preset limit.

The SSI-2020 unit has built in anti-circumventtion features which prevent the driver from trying to override the unit. This feature requires the driver to blow into the device for a period of 4-5 seconds, then simultaneuosly engage in a humming sound to satisfy the breath test requirement.

When you breathe into the unit for several seconds, it measures your breath alcohol level and compares it with pre-determined limits. If your breath alcohol BrAC is over the authorized limit, the vehicle will not start.

If your BrAC is with the the allowable range, you're on your way! Then, as you're driving, you will be required to take periodic "rolling re-tests".

Once a month, you'll take your vehicle to your local authorised Smart Start Interlocks Service Centre. There, certified technicians will service the Interlock device and schedule your next appointment. You'll make your monthly lease payments when you bring your vehicle in for service.
